Preoperative Medical Evaluation | Knee
This pre-operative day program is designed to prepare you physically and emotionally for surgery and recovery. Included in this program are:
- A physical exam by an internal medicine specialist, who will also document your medical history.
- Laboratory tests, chest x-ray, and EKG (heart test).
- Discussion/exploration of discharge plans.
- An education program explaining total hip replacement and what to expect from your surgery.
- A meeting with a physical therapist, if applicable.
How to Prepare
- You may eat breakfast and take your medications before arriving. You may want to bring your pain medicine.
- Bring all your prescription medicines with you.
- Wear comfortable, easy to change clothing for your physical exam and EKG (avoid back zippers, panty hose, etc.).
- Write down any questions and bring the list with you.
- Bring a list of all your allergies.
- Bring a family member or friend � this will help them help you!
- Arrive promptly at your designated time at the main entrance (Blue Lot) of the hospital and check in with the receptionist.
- You should expect to be at the hospital approximately 3 to 4 hours for completion of testing and education.
- You should receive a binder or folder either in the mail, or the day of your evaluation. If you receive paperwork in the mail, please complete all forms and bring them with you.
