History

The Center for Hip and Knee Surgery (JRSI South Campus)

The JRSI South campus hospital (Kendrick Memorial Hospital, now called St. Francis Hospital in Mooresville) was originally a colon-rectal hospital until The Center for Hip and Knee Surgery (CHKS) was added in 1986. The primary reasons for developing the CHKS were twofold. (1) To improve patient care and (2) reduce cost. Both of the original goals have been successful.

The development of The Center for Hip and Knee Surgery has allowed the surgeons here to work diligently at patient care and research associated with the advancements of total joint replacement. Over 1,000 joint replacements are performed every year at the CenterHipKneeSurgery We have state of the art operating rooms with special air flow systems that markedly reduce infection after surgery.

Over the last 13 years we have developed into a comprehensive Orthopedic Surgery practice which includes General Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, and care of Trauma. The first patient who underwent total joint replacement at the CHKS was in July of 1986. The Center for Hip and Knee Surgery has been in the top 5% of Joint Replacement Centers in the United States for each of the past 5 years and has been the #1 ranked Joint Replacement Center in Indiana two years in a row.
